Welcome to Mrs. Dendy`s Class!

Click here to fill out an information form about your child!

Stay connected with our class! We will use Bloomz, a new app that works both on your smartphone, as well as, on your computer. You will receive quick updates and photos of class activities, be able to access our class calendar, and more.

  1. Download the "Bloomz" app from the AppStore/Playstore and click "Create Account." If using your browser, go to bloomz.com and click on "Parents," then "Join Bloomz."
  2. In the text box, enter 5D92DQ. (our class code)
  3. Create your account.

We use Quizlet for almost all of our weekly reviews.  This website will have practice games for vocabulary and reviews for quizzes/tests. We will set up student accounts at school sometime within the first two weeks of school.

Order your child's 5th grade shirt. We will wear these every Tuesday and on ALL field trips. The cost is $10. Parents are welcome to order shirts, too.

If school is delayed for any reason, we will begin receiving students 30 minutes prior to the start time.

Homework and reminders will be written on the board in each classroom, as well as, listed on the Weekly Newsletter. Please check it to be sure your child is organized and on top of all assignments. The majority of homework will be in the form of studying for tests and completing unfinished classwork. There will also be a few projects throughout the year. I encourage your child to read an AR book, or part of a book, nightly.

Each week students receive 5 sharpened pencils to last for the entire week. Remind them to put pencils back in their pouch after completing their homework. Just a reminder that your child shares a desk with other students, so he/she needs to be responsible and keep the desk neat and organized.

Students should check out two books at a time. Books need to be in their reading range. This is written in their library folders. Also, students are only allowed to abandon 2 books per quarter. This means they MUST take a test on EVERY book they check out. Students keep an AR log to track their progress. They are responsible for recording the book(s) read and tested on daily. Folders are checked daily. You can keep up with your child’s progress by using AR Home Connect. You can even sign up to receive emails when your child takes a test! Join using your child’s AR user name and password by visiting: https://www.hosted46.renlearn.com/77858/HomeConnect.

Have books at home you want to look up for AR? Use www.arbookfind.com.

Please send in a picture of your child doing an activity that shows him/her "Sharpening the Saw." These are activities they do to balance work and play (i.e. football, softball, cheerleading, gymnastics, piano, vacation).

Newsletters will be posted weekly through the Bloomz app. These will include important information such as test dates, project information, field trip information, and school events. It also includes items we may need for the classroom. Please take time to read this each week as many questions can be answered with this information!

TUESDAY FOLDERS:

Tuesday folders will be sent home weekly. The folder will contain graded papers, and school and community information. Be sure to review all work and sign the signature sheet in the back of the folder. Papers must be returned by Thursday. If you need to keep papers an additional day, a note MUST be sent stating you are keeping the papers. Students who do not return papers will not be allowed to take papers home until the previous set has been returned.

Money for lunch will be collected by the teacher on Mondays ONLY! If your child brings money for lunch during the week, he/she is responsible for keeping up with it.

Checks should be made payable to Redland Elementary School. Please make sure to include a working phone number on the check. Please write your child's lunch number on the memo line so we can make sure it goes into the correct account. Lunch accounts are separate from all other $$!

Pay for lunch online at www.myschoolbucks.com. You will need your child's lunch number to create an account.

BREAKFAST: Full pay - $1.50; Reduced pay - $0.30

LUNCH: Full pay - $2.50; Reduced pay - $0.40

All transportation changes must be made by written note with a parent signature. Emails, text messages, and phone calls cannot be accepted.

Each month, you can order from Scholastic's huge selection of children's books. They have great prices and with every order, I earn rewards for our classroom. You can order through their secure site (click image below) or send a check payable to Scholastic with the paper order. You can even surprise your child with books for Christmas or birthdays. Just be sure to email me and let me know it's a surprise. You will need to set up a free account the first time you access their site. Use our class activation code: FN62Z.

Don't forget to cut and save Box Tops for Education from all General Mills products and send them in with your child. All the money collected from these goes DIRECTLY to OUR CLASSROOM! Please count them and send them in Ziploc bags (50 per bag). This is an EASY way for you to contribute to our classroom.
