I have 25 years experience in teaching, all of which has been in the 4th grade in Elmore County.  The first seventeen years were spent at Wetumpka Intermediate and the last six have been here at Redland Elementary.  I have taught ESL classes for a number of years at my church, on Tuesday nights. It was my pleasure to teach Youth College and Camp AUM at AUM for several years.

I was born in Montgomery, Alabama on December 20th in 1954. As a shy 6 year old, I went to Bear School followed by Cloverdale Junior High School. I graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1972.  Later, I graduated from AUM in 1976 with a degree in Urban Studies. In 1978, I received a degree in Public Administration.  I worked for AUM on Federal Grants and spent one year at Administrative Office of Courts implementing their test centers. After staying home with children, I went back to college to get my Alternative Masters Degree in Education in 1992. Meanwhile in 1987, I began teaching Adult Education classes, which I loved.  I did this for two years. I began teaching in Elmore County in 1992 and I've been teaching ever since in 4th grade.  I love 4th grade!

I'm married to William Perkins and we have 2 children, Natalie and Ashford. Natalie is living in Wetumpka with her son, Barrette, our first grandchild. She is a 7th grade Life Science teacher at Millbrook Middle School. Ashford and his wife Andrea reside in Walsboro with their 3 dogs and 2 cats. Ashford is in the landscape and lawn business.
